Mission u Project

United Methodist Women’s Summer 2019 Mission Project

For our mission project this year, we will be collecting sports bras and panties to be given to
girls and women at Selah Freedom House.

Selah Freedom is a national organization with the mission to end sex trafficking and bring
freedom to the exploited through four strong programs: Advocacy & Awareness, Prevention,
Outreach and Residential. The Chicago home served over 700 last year, providing Residential
Programming for survivors of sex trafficking that includes a personalized educational plan, job
placement, trauma therapy, life skills, medical and legal assistance, and holistic restorative care.
As we bring light into the darkness of sex trafficking, we see victims transformed into survivors!

About half of those who came to Selah came from emergency rooms needing underwear. They
have requested sports bras in sizes medium to extra-large (they should be seamless and
stretch, and pullover–easier to fit) and panties, bikini style, mid-rise, cotton, sizes 6-9. These
and other like styles are available at Wal-Mart, Target, Kohls, Macy’s, Amazon, and other
locations. (Examples of Fruit of the Loom brands are below.)

Selah is a Hebrew word which means to pause, rest, and reflect. The organization gives survivors a chance to do just that. Women in their programs have an opportunity to dream again; to discover who it is they were created to be.

Please help us help them. Donation deadline: July 10th. Contact Vickie Powell-Bass at vbass@att.net to submit donations or for further information.
